When people dream of the perfect place to go on an holiday, the Bahamas comes out in the top three, and for good reason. About 700 islands and more than 2000 small cays make up this tropical paradise. In the old days, it used to be a haven for pirates and loyalists but these days, anyone who enjoys letting go and simply enjoying life can step in and have a taste from the delicious wine that is the Bahamas.

As the Bahamas is a mix of shops, restaurants, entertainment, fun, music, there is something for everyone. But what are the top tourist attractions in the Bahamas? Read on!

1. Andros

Andros is the biggest landmass in the Bahamas and it is also the third largest barrier reef in the world. Because of the island’s vast wetlands, channels are created which makes it a good area for fishing and prime boating. It should also not come as a surprise to you why this is a popular destination for divers. Apart from that, people also visit Andros because of the lighthouse — this lighthouse comes with guns and cannons that makes the trip all the more worth it.

2. Grand Bahama

You might have heard this before and not believed it, but the Grand Bahama is truly one of the most beautiful places in the Bahamas. Your visit to the Bahamas wont be complete if you leave out this one location. Apart from getting the perfect tan on the beach and lounging, people also enjoy the peace that comes with settling down at one of its very nice restaurants or even shopping for crafted straw goods.

3. Paradise Island

There is a reason the island is called the “Paradise island” and that is a very solid reason. According to tourists who’ve visited, the island offers a variety of things such as gambling casinos, inns, spas — everything to ensure you have a memorable experience while visiting. There is also the Atlantis resorts where you will find fun waters life’s, aquariums and a lot of water parks.

4. Elbow Cay

People who’ve visited Elbow Cay have claimed that the location reminds you of the old times when fishing towns still thrived. To complete that village feeling, the center of the town and the island’s principal settlement is off-limits to vehicles. There are also many boating opportunities to look forward to while at Elbow Cay.

5. Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park

The Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park is situated in Eastern Bahamas. It is the first of its kind in the Caribbean region and most people refer to it as a marine secured area. Why? It houses some of the most stunning seascapes in the whole city. If you’re a fan of water sports, you can also enjoy this beautiful place with your family and friends while you become familiar with the marine life.

6. Pirate Museum

The Pirate Museum is the favorite of a great many people as there are a lot of intriguing stories attached to it. The museum is historical in itself and it contains a lot of elements that will take you back to the times and perhaps even make you feel like a pirate, even if it’s just for a split second.

7. Long Island

Long island is a haven for diving, fishing, and boating. It also boasts of many unspoiled pink and white sand beaches. One of the island’s most stunning attractions is the Dean’s Blue Home, which is the deepest known saltwater blue hole in the world. This is one of the many reasons why you should visit the island. Fun fact, you can only get access to the island by ferry or by air.

8. Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Park

If you do not like animals, then maybe do not visit the Ardastra Gardens. But do you really want to miss out on an opportunity to see the native Bahamian animals for yourself? The zoo houses a ton of them. Nature lovers can also find something for themselves at the garden.

9. Downtown and Bay Street

If you are looking to do some shopping and be amongst many visitors like yourself, Downtown and Bay street is one of the places to go. It is a market area busy with shops, street hawkers, restaurants. You can quite literally get whatever you need here, from clothing to accessories to food to even perfumes.

10. National Art Gallery of the Bahamas

Dear art enthusiasts, there is something for you too. The National Art Gallery is situated at the Villa Doyle which is basically a large Neoclassical mansion. The gallery was built in the 1860s by the Chief Justice of the Bahamas at the time, William Henry Doyle. Today, you can find stunning art pieces at the gallery that will take your breath away.
